The History of Luther League
According to the only records available the Young People's Society of the Bonnet Prairie Lutheran Church was first organized on November 24, 1896 by the Rev. L. M. Gimmestad. This society met twice a month and was composed of members both young and old.
For many years this organization was very active, meeting in different homes, securing outside speakers and enjoying tremendous crowds.
It was not until the early thirties that the organization really become known as a Luther League. Then its members were composed entirely of young folks, mostly of high school age. Meetings were held in the basement of the stone Church, often times being entertained by the Circles. Many Church improvements can be attributed to this organization.
From the time that the Bible Camps came into prominence the Luther League has endeavored to pay a part of the expenses of leaguers desiring to attend these Camps. During the past few years the League has followed a definite series of programs, the leaguers themselves taking the principal part. Especially during the past year, under the capable leadership of Henry Staveness, who has been the advisor, the League has made definite progress. At present its membership numbers about 35 young people.
